Interview with Lalita

Brenda McDaniel here with an exclusive interview from Lalita.  She has a very interesting story.  Lalita is a Vampire that actually embraces the clichés that surround Vampires.  Rather than being disgusted with the Hollywood myth, she prefers to flaunt it.

Brenda: Thank you for allowing me to come into your home to interview Lalita.  I sincerely appreciate you taking time from your busy schedule to allow us to get to know you better.

Lalita: No problem.  I don't have to get ready for the club for a few hours.

Brenda: Club Strigoi?

Lalita: (laughing) Is there any other club?

Brenda: (chuckles) I guess not.  Shall we begin?  What was your first impression of Gareth?  What exactly is it about him that attracts you?

Lalita: I remember the first time I saw him thinking 'Gods I want to spend the night fuc-screwing his brains out.'  I'm not sure it's any one thing about him that makes me so crazy around him.  I love that we like some of the same things - not that I'll ever admit that to him. (chuckle)  He really is a great guy.  He's strong and macho, but you get a small glimpse of a softer side of him when he's with his sister.

Brenda: Since you brought her up, what do you think of Mel?

Lalita: She's great.  She quickly became one of my best friends.  She accepts a lot without asking awkward questions.  Sisters usually don't like me, but Mel is great.  It's obvious how much she cares for her brother.

Brenda: It's refreshing to see siblings that care so much for each other isn't it?

Lalita: (nodding) Yes it is.

Brenda: What about your sisters?  Are you close to them?  What does your family think about the men you are attracted to?

Lalita: My sisters?  Well, Kaly means well, but we're just so different.  She's Rodeo Drive and I'm more the mall. (looking around)  This, (motioning to her beautifully decorated living room), all this was decorated by Kaly.  We have very different styles.  But she loves me, and I know she means well.  Chanda, she's probably the sister I'm closest to.  She understands me.  We've been through a lot in the past and we've been there for each other.  (laughing)  As for what my family thinks of my boy toys...I guess that would depend on which member you're talking about.  Kaly is usually too busy screaming 'ew' to get to know them.  Chanda, well, for her it's enough that this is the man I want to be with at the time.  My parents...well, let's just say they put the 'fun' in dysfunctional.  It gets annoying having them throw my men out on their asses, but to be honest, looking back, I can always laugh about their methods.  This one time, (chuckling) about a hundred years ago, they thought this rogue was taking advantage of me, and my daddy threatened to disembowel him.  The look on his face was priceless!

Brenda: (chucking) It sounds like an interesting story.

Lalita: Oh it was hilarious.  But this guy really was a jerk.  I mean, how stupid did he think I was?  I knew he wasn't going to actual keep his promises.  But seems like Daddy didn't think it was right of him to even say those things.

Brenda: Daddy's tend to be a bit protective of their baby girls.

Lalita: Yes, they are.

Brenda: You mentioned this being your sister's style.  Will you tell us about your style?  What is it about the Gothic lifestyle, Vampire clichés that draw you to them?

Lalita: (thinks for a moment)  My style, well, I'm more your 'basic black' sort of girl.  I don't know how to explain it.  Why is green some people's favorite color and for others it's purple or blue?  I was initially drawn to the Goth style because it mirrored so much about me.  I get to stay up all night, no one asks me why I don't have a tan, I get to show off my fangs...  Vampire clichés were practically the same.  I mean, don't you love it when you're walking around with this giant secret that not many other people know about?  I get such a kick out of pretending to know less about Vampires than the 'experts' in the scene.  What do I care what they think of me?  I know more about their fascination than they will ever be able to even guess.  It's fun.

Brenda: I never thought about it that way before.  I know I, myself, enjoy playing dumb when I know about a secret or surprise.  It's like knowing this gigantic inside joke that no one understands but you.

Lalita: (smiling)  Exactly!

Brenda:  If you don't mind me going back to the topic of Club Strigoi, I had the pleasure of going there myself a few nights ago.  It really was a wonderful place!  The music made me want to dance, and the bouncers! Oh my, the bouncers were quite delightful to watch.

Lalita:  It is a great place.

Brenda: One bouncer, in particular, caught my eye.  The tall red-head...

Lalita: (smiling) Bram.

Brenda:  Bram.  A little birdie told me you enjoy flirting with him.  If you had to choose between Bram and Gareth - as a love interest - which man would you choose?

Lalita:  No contest.  Bram is a complete doll.  I really do love him, but I'm not in love with him.  I love flirting with him, he is definitely good for my ego.  But I just don't think of him that way.  I've tried, but he's just not my type.  Gareth on the other hand...(predatory smile)

Brenda:  Is Gareth understanding about your...relationship with Bram?

Lalita: Not really, no.  He gets jealous and he's fun to watch.  Actually, yes, he is very understanding.  As long as I don't kiss or uh, stroke Bram, Gareth manages to keep his temper under control.

Brenda: (looking at the clock) I can see our time is almost up.  Where did it all go?  Do you have time for one question from a reader?

Lalita:  Of course!

Brenda: (pulls out small notebook and reads from the first page) Our reader asks...Have you found that men get better with their sexuality as the years go by, or is it all about the dick?

Lalita: (laughing)  I like this reader!  Well, that depends, are you talking about Men growing older, or through history?

Brenda: Both?  Just kidding.  Through history.  Are today's males different sexually than men say a hundred years ago?

Lalita: (laughing harder)  A little.  Sexuality is much freer today.  It was easier on men though.  For as long as I can remember it has been alright for them to be, uh, knowledgeable about as many women as they want - it was encouraged!  But for women, well, we had to try to restrain or hide our sexuality.  Unless of course you worked in a brothel, and the second your daddy finds out you're working there... Well, let me tell you, he isn't pleased one bit.  Before you get to even have a little bit of fun he throws the men closest to you into the wall and while he doesn't actually drag you out, you can be certain no one else is going to come near you, so you have no choice but to leave...

(clearing throat)  Sorry about that...

Brenda: (laughing) No problem.  That sounds like one seriously funny story.

Lalita:  Most men today are more sensitive to women's needs.  But I did say most.  Really, the only thing that changes is society's perception of sex.  Is it right?  Is it wrong?  Should a woman enjoy it?  Who knows, in another couple hundred years, Society could change completely, making it alright for women to enjoy as many partners as they wish while men are expected to remain 'pure'.

Brenda:  That would be quite interesting to see!  Quite a theory you have there.  Well, Lalita, I would like to thank you so very much for inviting me into your home and allowing me, and our readers, to get to know you better!

Lalita: It was a lot of fun. We should hang out again.

Brenda: I would like that.  From Gryffin Press, this is Brenda McDaniel and Lalita saying until next time, enjoy playing in the dark.

Lalita:  (flashes fangs)
