Interview with Faith Anderson
Brenda McDaniel here with an exclusive interview from Faith. It took a little bit of time to catch up to her, with her busy schedule, but it was well worth the wait. She consented to spending her lunch hour with us.
Brenda: Faith, thank you so much for allowing me to have this time to sit down and allow our readers to get to know you.
Faith: It's no problem, Brenda. (chuckling) To tell the truth, I was beginning to wonder if Sandy had forgotten about me.
Brenda: Of course not! She was the one that told me how to get in touch with you when we couldn't reach you.
Faith: (chuckling) She can be nice, if she wants to be.
Brenda: You seem like a pretty smart woman, like you have things figured out. How did such an intelligent, responsible woman wind up dating a drug dealer?
Faith: Ah, Donnie. (gets distant look in her eyes) Well, presentation is everything, isn't it? If I present myself as though I'm well organized, responsible and intelligent, that's the conclusion you would come to concerning me, isn't it?
Brenda: Yes.
Faith: You'd never think that you could walk into my home and see that it looks like a tornado ran through it.
Brenda: (shaking head) No, I wouldn't. After talking with you, even the little bit that I have, and after seeing your desk I'd be stunned, to tell the truth.
Faith: Exactly. Now, my house isn't a wreck (laughing) but it's the same principle. Donnie presented himself as the kind of man I would typically date. He did his homework.
Brenda: And you fell in love with him.
Faith: Completely. It broke my heart to find out the truth about him. But as much as I loved him, I could *not* be with drug dealer. It's not who I am. So, I broke up with him.
Brenda: Do you still love him?
Faith: (shifts nervously) Well, a part of me will always love him. He was the first man that I fell in love with like that. Doesn't a small part of your heart still love your first love?
Brenda: (after a pause) Yes, I guess I do. In that 'first love' sort of way.
Faith: Exactly.
Brenda: What about Daniel? He's pretty hot. How could you choose between the two?
Faith: Daniel is a really great guy. Very handsome, very sexy. There really wasn't much of a choice to be made, was there?
Brenda: That's not really an answer. (Chuckles) That's ok, we'll let our readers draw their own conclusions.
Faith: (joining in the laughter).
Brenda: Was it hard seeing your ex, knowing he still wanted you back? What about the interesting playtime between you and Daniel at Donnie's party?
Faith: It was hard. A part of me wanted to forgive and forget, to just go running back to him. Daniel is a great guy. He was put in a really hard position. (both women chuckle at the double entendre) He wanted to catch the bad guy, but he didn't want to hurt me, to do anything I didn't want him to do. I really respect that about him.
Brenda: So, you *do* consider Donnie the bad guy?
Faith: That's where we get into murky waters. What he did was bad, yes. But, when we were together he treated me so... (clears throat) I try not to think about all that anymore.
Brenda: I can respect that. That entire situation must have been hard on you.
Faith: It really was.
Brenda: Well, I have only one more question about the triangle you were involved in. Are you happy with the way everything turned out?
Faith: (silent for a moment, staring off into the distance) It ended the only way it could. Daniel is a great guy that treats me right. I have no complaints about him. And Donnie will be held accountable for his actions.
Brenda: That's a vague answer...
Faith: It's the most honest one I have. Everyone seems to expect you to simply stop caring about someone just because you find out something bad about them. Life would be so much easier if that were the way it happened, but feelings are messy. I'm working through how I feel, Daniel knows this. He accepts it. I can't turn off my emotions and he wouldn't want me to even if I could.
Brenda: Fair enough. I'm sorry for bringing all of this back up after so long...
Faith: Don't worry about it Brenda. It's a part of my past, and I understand that people wonder about it.
Brenda: You are so much more understanding about this whole situation. It was a genuine pleasure getting to know you today, Faith.
Faith: It was great to finally get to meet you! I read your column all the time! I never thought I'd ever have the chance to actually meet you and sit down for an interview!
Brenda: (smiling) Thank you. I hope you continue to enjoy my interviews. (chuckling) They are great fun to do. I'm very lucky to get to meet such wonderful women!
Faith: (glances at watch) I'm so sorry, Brenda, but my break is almost over. I hate to have to run out like this...
Brenda: But you have to get back to work. I completely understand. From Gryffin Press, this is Brenda McDaniel and Faith Anderson saying until next time!
