Interview with Emily Pierson

Brenda McDaniel here, bringing you an interview with Emily Pierson, the heroine of Sandy’s upcoming release, Everyday Masks.  This interview was particularly tricky to do, since Sandy has been rather tight lipped about the release.

Brenda: Emily, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with me.

Emily: It’s my pleasure.

Brenda: Are you sure you don’t mind?  I’d hate to get you in trouble with Sandy…

Emily: (laughing) I wouldn’t worry about that.  I’ll just get Alex to whisper something into her ear, and she’ll forget all about this.

Brenda: Now that you’ve mentioned it, I had heard that she has a particular weakness for Alex.  What’s so special about him?

Emily:  Well, I know what I think is special. (Laughs)  Alex is a really great guy.  At times you really want to just strangle him and scream ‘wake up! Don’t you see what’s right in front of you!’ But then again, is there a man alive that doesn’t make a woman feel that way now and then?

Both women chuckle.

Brenda: Not that I’ve met, that’s for sure.  So, describe Alex for us, since Sandy’s being so stubborn.

Emily: Well, he’s a really great guy.  I don’t think there’s very much that he wouldn’t do for his friends.  Not long after we became friends, he helped me out so much by helping me plan this Mardi Gras theme day for our company.  I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him.  He’s quite stubborn, (laughing) but I think I may have already mentioned that.

Brenda: (nodding) Go on.

Emily: Physically, I find him very attractive.  He has the brownest eyes, they are so beautiful.  He shaves his head, and, whew! Let me tell you, I just love to run my hands over the silky smooth skin.  He’s got a couple of tattoos – one of them he even let me help him pick out! – and piercings.  (laughs) I don’t know what else to tell you.

Brenda: What is it that makes him so special? To you, I mean.

Emily: I love his sense of humor.  The way he makes me laugh, and how we like a lot of the same things.  And he really does treat people incredibly.  Take his secretary for example.  I’ve never seen him treat her with anything but the utmost respect.  He’s always willing to help others.

Brenda: What do you think about Daphne?

Emily: (closed expression) I’d prefer to leave her out of the conversation.  I am still training her, and do not gossip about my employees.

Brenda: I can respect that.

(At this point Emily’s phone rings)

Emily: Hello?  Oh, hi Sandy… (She holds up a finger and stands up, stepping away from the table.)

Brenda: Well, we’ll let her take her phone call, then we’ll get back to our interview…provided Sandy doesn’t snatch her away from us first…

(Emily sits back down)

Emily: Sorry about that.  Sandy heard about the interview and I had to figure out a way to distract her.

Brenda: (laughing) What’d you say?

Emily: I told her Alex was thinking about letting his hair grow out.  She’ll ‘set him straight’.

Brenda: (laughing) So, she doesn’t like hair?

Emily: No, she does.  She just likes him without hair. (laughing)

Brenda: What can you tell us about your book?

Emily: Well, what would you like to know?  Alex and I work together.  We start hanging out when one of his ex girlfriends won’t take no for an answer.  And we become very good friends.

Brenda: That’s always good.  What about later?  Do you think there was a mutual attraction?

Emily: I think there was.  But he was too stubborn to admit it.

Brenda: Well, I think I’ve taken enough of your time.  And I wouldn’t want you to get into trouble.  Thank you so much for chatting with us.

Emily: You are so welcome.  Thank you for interviewing me.  And as one more special treat…(Emily reaches in her purse and pulls out a sheet of paper)  How about another Brenda Exclusive?

Brenda: (reading)  Wow!  Thank you!  Ok, we shall end this interview with a special treat from Emily!  A sneak Peak at Everyday Masks.

From Brenda and Emily, Enjoy, and we will see you next time.

The Setup:  Alex sees Emily in casual attire for the first time.

Excerpt:

Alex walked around Emily’s living room, admiring the feel of her home.  It was clean, but had a warm, lived in feeling to it.

He picked up a frog figurine she had sitting in the center of her coffee table.  With it still in his hands, he turned around when he heard her clear her throat slightly.

“I hope this is alright.  I wasn’t sure what to wear.  I can go change,” she offered.  When he didn’t say anything immediately, she turned.  “I’m just going to change…”

“You look fine.  You just surprised me a bit,” he said, staring at her.  His eyes traveled leisurely from the bottom of her sneakers, to her snug fitting jeans, to the black tank top that just slightly overlapped the pants.  The outfit revealed how good a job she did of hiding her true figure under the clothes she wore into the office.

“Not what you expected?” she asked with a slight grin.

“Honestly, no.”  Replacing the figurine, he walked over to her.  “Do you need to grab your purse?”

“Um, no.  I have everything I need in my pockets.”  She patted her front pocket.  “Really, unless I’m wearing a dress, I find the things annoying,” she confessed.

“Well then if you’re ready, I would love to get out of this suit,” he told her.

Rolling her eyes, she surprised him again by tugging on his tie until it was no longer around his neck.  “Then stop stalling us.”  She tossed it back to him and headed for the door.

Catching the silk tie, he followed her out of the apartment, waiting while she locked her door and stuffed her keys back down into her pocket.  As she walked down the stairs, he eagerly followed her.
